“We think we listen, but very rarely do we listen with real understanding, true empathy. Yet listening, of this very special kind, is one of the most potent forces for change that I know.”
(Carl Rogers, Psychologist 1902-1987)

"Recovery can only take place within the context of relationships; it cannot occur in isolation."
(Judith Herman, American Psychiatrist)

Why work with me

I provide trauma-informed counselling services for individuals aged 9 and above, available through telehealth (video and phone) across Australia or in-person sessions in Hamilton Hill, Perth. Any younger than 9 would be more suited to play therapy.

My approach is grounded in the biopsychosocial model, acknowledging that our genetics, experiences, and systems shape who we are. Life can present various challenges and transitions, and I am here to assist you in navigating these complexities with professionalism and care.

I have lived experience of mental health and trauma and was diagnosed with ADHD last year. I understand how hard it can be to heal in a world that can be tough for trauma survivors. I have oodles of empathy but learnt the hard way that empaths are often a product of trauma. I like working with the modalities that I myself found helpful as that makes sense right to use something that worked for me.

Does that mean it will work for everyone? No and thats the beauty of being human is we all heal differently.

Do I have a magic wand? I wish! but I do care deeply for my clients and I am proud of working in the mental health field for as long as I have.

Some of my previous counselling experience and career highlights includes: volunteer counselling for youth and adults, private practice in the UK, revenge porn helpline counsellor (where I took part in a documentary about revenge porn and was published in cosmopolitan magazine, metro newspaper and BBC news), alcohol and other drug counsellor and SMART group facilitator,  counsellor for an app designed by the Black Dog Institute and children and families counsellor for Relationships Australia 4families program. I have also worked in mental health support work in care homes and the community and worked with the homeless prior to achieving my qualification in counselling in 2009.

I currently work with students at a creative media college/Uni where I won an award for exceptional service to my students in 2023 and I also run my private practice and work for Employee Assistance Programs on my other days.

How I Work.

The relationship between me and you is essential!

I am a holistic counsellor that uses different approaches to the counselling process as we all heal uniquely.

Some of these include person centred, attachment theory, psychodynamic, strengths based, somatic body therapies and elements of DBT such as self compassion and mindfulness.

I consider our work to be collaborative and you feeling safe or at ease is my utmost priority.

Counselling can:

-Help us to feel safe, heard and understood

Sometimes for the first time in our lives!

-Grow in confidence

-Learn strategies and ways of coping better

-Change our neural pathways and help process painful memories

-Love ourselves more and learn to trust more

-Have better relationships

-Enable us to find out who we really are and to live more authentically

-Helps with personal growth and improved wellbeing

I am hopeful that with my lived experience and my career in mental health that together we can make significant progress.

I am super passionate about the healing journey and I know how much power we all hold when we feel safe and when we feel validated.

It takes a lot of courage to heal but it is worth it!

Please see some of my clients feedback below or on my google business account for how it may help you and please feel free to ask any questions via the chat box, email or SMS.

I look forward to hopefully working with you soon.

I have been to many psychologists and counsellors before, however Caterina is able to connect and understand me in a way that was lacking from others. I feel much more open to talking with her about my mental health struggles than any of the others before and I feel it has helped me immensely. Her approach for helping me with my mental health issues has so far been very effective and I have seen remarkable improvement in my mental health and in my life in general.”
I thank you so much, you helped me through a large part of my studies. Your support was really helpful, more than I can express (If you didn’t help or I felt uncomfortable I wouldn’t have booked so many sessions with you and I am thankful for every single one) and at the most challenging part of my life, I will forever be thankful.”
You have a way and I can only speak of my interactions with you that made me feel extremely comfortable, topics we would discuss you had been through or have experience dealing with them, the relatability and honesty I think helps with that, it is something special. I can see and feel you genuinely care without any judgement whatsoever. You listen with great empathy and share your knowledge on those topics’.
